The Commission is consulting on the EU’s new strategy on adaptation to the impacts of climate change. The Commission aims to present the new strategy in early 2021, which is part of the European Green Deal. A blueprint for the strategy is provided for context, as well as to indicate possible directions of development. It can be found here.

EBI will provide input to the consultation but invites members, stakeholders and interested parties to also provide specific feedback they may have. The consultation can be found here.

As part of the Green Deal, the European Commission is working on a new offshore renewable energy strategy. This should provide the strategic direction for the EU’s ambitious plans of increasing offshore wind parks in the next decades. EBI will provide input to the consultation but invites members, stakeholders and interested parties to also provide specific feedback they may have.

Deadline: 6 October 2020

The EU will update its consumer rights legislation and policy. This will also consider the lessons learned from COVID-19 and address the green and digital transition. The main areas that the Commission is looking at are 1) A new Consumer agenda/Learnings from COVID-19, 2) Empowering the consumer for the green transition, 3) Review of the Directive on credit agreements for consumers and 4) Review of the Directive on General Product Safety. EBI will provide input to the consultation but invites members, stakeholders and interested parties to also provide specific feedback they may have.

Public consultation on EU Arctic policy

Deadline: 10 November 2020

The EU’s Arctic policy has been updated regularly since it was first outlined in 2008. The consultation will be a broad reflection on the current policy addressing new challenges and opportunities, including the EU's ambitions under the European Green Deal. The consultation seeks input on the strengths and shortfalls of the existing policy, with a view to possibly preparing an updated approach.

The FuelEU Maritime initiative aims to increase the use of sustainable alternative fuels in European shipping and ports by addressing market barriers that hamper their use and uncertainty about which technical options are market-ready. It is part of a package to bring the maritime transport sector in line with the EU’s ambition of climate-neutrality by 2050.
